no but seriously.
im proud of my egyptian heritage.. but the whole pharroh, mummy, pyramid thing is a little weird really.
heres the snippet of convo with mr blob from work which got me thinking about my ancestory -

thats actually hilarious,
i love the angle of approach...
i usually give in after the second time they ask.
and i'm like FINE my parents are persian.. OK FINE they were born in iran.. great times
meanwhile, i'm not a meanie. have mercy on me.
yeah i'm pretty fine with my ethnicity too... i didn't really see it as much of a problem. where i live i get constantly asked if i'm australian. truly!
hahahaha!!!
seriously, why not say your parents are egyptian from the get-go?
I dont hide the fact that I was born in Iran
(I do point out that Ive lived 21 years in Australia, and am therefore by defintion more "Aussie" than most of my uni friends who were born here).
serously tash - you're such a lawyer
im not hiding nothing (obviously, hence the blog).
its just more fun this way :)
i was sitting with an un-named persian friend of mine and we were both asked where we were from and they insisted on australia. they didnt even give in EVER! i shared my half-indian-ness but this person insisted on being australian. i do like to sometimes start with australian, born here, lived here all my life, something about how my ancestors were convicts... and then when they are still confused i make them feel uncomfortable with a comment about my skin colour... hehe but i always tell them!
Umm woah tash, I agree with "born in iran but lived most of life in australia" dude.
Its already hard enough for those poor chooks to start the converstaion about enthic background, so why make it harder, if we can talk more openening rather than defensively about our egyptionality then i think we will seem more aussie.
But then again i tell people im araboriginal so who am i to talk.
peace
