I was a practicing solicitor, and yet I felt I hadn't found my career path. It was time to put two and two together. So. I quit the city job, hung up my suits, had one long last gaze at the glorious Sydney skyline, and never looked back. And here I am. Living in Cairo. Student at the AUC, enrolled in the two-year masters course of International and Comparative Law. Am I excited? UM NO! I'm terrified!

I dont get it which one of the cats is Mrs Simpkins??? Why are they crying? What does 'immediate' mean?
i think (but i'm not 100% sure myself) the cats are some old lady's pets (who's recently died) and they expect to inherit something too?
"immediate family" means the other members of your nuclear family - so in her case, her husband and kids.
