but for all the wrong reasons.
sure i love that people are commemorating the birth of Christ in their own ways. although personally, i'd love to see more emphasis on the Christ part of christmas, but let's not get too deep this morning. let's keep it simple people.
see the reason that i love the week leading up to christmas is that.. well it's that one time in the year where people (i.e. my bosses) take an extra 10 mins getting their morning coffee, undo their top button by lunchtime, fling their ties onto their desks, and suddenly become interested in the office juice (i.e. goss, running jokes and the like). people become a little silly around christmas – and it really makes me feel normal for once. it ignites in me this wonderful sense of belonging..
and let's not neglect the fact that angel place currently has a string quartet playing in the lobby. it's SO exciting. i sway to the soft tones of silent night as i walk extra slowly towards the elevators to soak up the sweet melody. sigh. i love christmas.
not even the evil huntsman spider that has decided to shack up on the driver-side window of my car can get me down. even though the creepy little freak keeps scurrying around and appearing on random parts of the window while i'm driving. i need that scary movie theme music playing in my car (you know the one.. when there is a serial killer looming around and he's about to jump out of some crevice). i'm officially constantly on edge the second i step into my vehicle. okay gotta stop thinking of those furry legs and beady eyes.
so, bringing it back to a slightly deeper level. although i love this holiday cheer feeling, i think people need to think about stripping away the traditions and the superstitutions, and work out what the true spirit of this season should be (and im not talkin silliness). this quote is more what i think christmas should be about:
O servant of God! We revealed Ourself to thee once in thy sleep, but thou didst remain unaware. Remember now, that thou mayest perceive and hasten with heart and soul to the placeless Friend.
