no, i'm not talking about eminem, obama running for president, zu living in afghanistan or the price of ipods in brazil (seriously though, move to canada).. i'm talking about something a lot smaller (literally) and a lot more insigificant.
the past week has proven to me that controversy is very, very subjective indeed.
as the saying goes: one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
what am i talking about? well, when i went to get the tiny diamond stud inserted into my nose a week ago, i guess i was being my own freedom fighter. turns out that i'm actually a terrorist.
in carrying out an act which i've wanted to do for years, i've effectively stirred a major who-ha amongst my family, few colleagues and my ultra-conversative (ahem) friends.
who would've thought that it's controversial for a corporate lawyer in private practice to have a nose stud. unprofessional? whaaaatttt are they talking about. it's a tiny tiny stud. i must not succumb to the peer pressure. i must fight these overwhelming urges to remove the little spec on my nose as a sign of me waving a white flag to say "i'm conforming! i'm conforming! please forgive me, i'm conforming!".
well. would you like to see the tiny thing that has caused this big kaffufle?

advice welcome.

Hmmm! A few years ago I would have despaired that you were lost forever. Now I see a nose stud as normal (although I personally won't be testing my employer by getting one). Despite your new terrorist exterior, I know you're the same nice person inside.
its all good tash. don't conform. it looks great.
plus, hello? my recently acquired very public and noticeable tattoo in an ultraconservative school where dreadlocks are considered a sign of the devil and kids get in trouble for trying to grow mohawks..... its NUFFIN! they get used to it eventually.
of course, i still have to put up with looks askance and rolling eyes everytime i say something to my colleagues now, but they did that prior tattoo anyway. i think its ageism more than prejudice against change. it's just coz we're young and beautiful!
never conform!!!!
colin - thank you for your vote of confidence.
chan - youth and beauty, we certainly have. so HA to them.
i love it
i love how you call us ultra-conservative. Tash, you knooow i'm not conservative - merely pointing out the reality of the harsh corporate world. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to play it by their beat.
I love how I'm rambling for the sake of some heated pros and con debate.
On another note - I actually think it looks good on you :) so ha!
and that's right, i'm "anonymous" muhahahaha.
i love that we're so connected that i know it's you meg.
do you like that?
